OVERALL DESIGN

The list includes data which are necessary for calculation of the combined
internal combustion engine and its units: turbines, compressors, air coolers,
speed-reducers of turbo-compressors, additional combustion chamber, etc.

There are not included in the list: the data for calculation of the
performances of the combined engine; the data for realization of complex optimization and
the data for set-up of mathematical model. These data are not necessary for the first
acquaintance with the program.

The code DIESEL-2/4t allows to carry out the calculation of any scheme of a
turbocharging including two-stage: with a speed-reducer of some stage and free. The
maximum amount of data is required for such calculation which will carry out the
coordination of the characteristics of the engine, turbines, compressors and air coolers.

The pre-processor of the code automatically offers only those data which are
necessary for a chosen configuration of calculation. The present document has not
functions of the pre-processor therefore the list of input data can seem too large,
especially, the list of data for turbocharging units. The minimum data set
is required for calculation of an engine when the characteristics of turbines and
compressors are not taken into account. The parameters of supercharging can be set
directly or calculated as functions of pressure ratio and efficiency of compressor. The
pressure of gas in front of turbine can be set directly or calculated by solution
of equation of capacity balance between a turbine and compressor. In the latter the
turbocharger efficiency must be set.

Input data are grouped together according to main systems of an engine.

- Mechanism of transformation of a movement of the piston in rotation of the shaft: crank / other ( For other it is necessary to set the function of the piston movement).
- Length of the connecting-rod.
- Number of cylinders.
- Compression ratio.
- Material of the piston or piston head (iron / steel / aluminium).
- Material of the cylinder head (iron / steel / aluminium).
- Average thickness of the cylinder head wall D (Fig.2).
- Type of engine cooling (liquid-cooling /air-cooling).
- Parameters of a fur layer and casting skin on a cooled wall of cooling system:

- thickness;

- thermal conductivity Wt/(m*K). - Parameters of a blades on the cylinder head at air cooling :

- step of blades;

- average height of blades;

- average thickness of a blade .

**4. UNITS OF TURBOCHARGING**

The calculation of engines with different systems of
supercharging including two-step turbocharging with inter cooling, system Hyperbar, etc.
can be carried out by code DIESEL - 2/4t.

The calculation can be carried out on given parameters of gas
after the compressor and in front of the turbine or by the coordination of characteristics
of all units.

The characteristics of turbines and compressors can be imported
from text files or obtained as a result of gas-dynamic calculation of a gas flow of these
units.

Below lists of the initial data contains the maximum data set.
The pre-processor chooses only necessary data for the elected scheme of calculation. For
example: the efficiency and the pressure ratio of the turbine and compressor are not
needful for calculation of characteristics curves of these units. Pressure ratio and
efficiency are defined in each point by means of gas-dynamic calculation of flow in view
of losses under different attack angles.

FIXED PARAMETERS OF THE REGIME OF THE TURBO-COMPRESSOR

- Specify a way of the average pressure at front of turbine calculation:

- to set directly (in this case specify the pressure at the inlet of turbine);

- to calculate by means specified in the table of the turbines data;

- to calculate by means of balance of turbine and compressor power capacity (in this case specify the turbocharger efficiency). - Turbocharger efficiency.
- Average absolute pressure at the inlet of turbine or its first approach.
- Specify a way of the supercharging parameters calculation:

- to set directly (in this case specify the compressor discharge pressure and temperature);

- to calculate by means specified in the table of the compressors data; - Compressor discharge pressure (absolute, after air cooler).
- Compressor discharge temperature (after air cooler).
